Hospitality Definitions

Short-Term Rental (STR)
Accommodation provided for a brief period, typically ranging from 4 to 29 days. Most hotels and AirBnb are STR. AL stands for Alojamento Local (Local Lodging) is a requirement for STR in guest houses or villas.

Hybrid Hospitality
A multi-use operational model that blends elements of hotels, residential living, and coworking spaces. Here at the Golden Mermaid Villa we offer STR as well as intermediate-length accommodations through Coliving.

Coliving
A modern housing model where residents have private sleeping quarters but share large, high-quality communal spaces such as professional kitchens, dining areas, and workspaces. Coliving is defined by a "Housing-as-a-Service" approach, where a single monthly fee typically covers rent, utilities, high-speed internet, and maintenance, fostering organic social interaction through shared infrastructure.

Niche Coliving

A specialized form of coliving that curates its community based on specific shared interests, professional backgrounds, or lifestyle values. Unlike "Big Box" coliving which targets mass demographics (students or digital nomads), niche coliving focuses on a smaller, intentional group.

Solo Senior Community
A community-driven living arrangement specifically designed for independent adults (typically aged 50+) who are traveling or living solo. This model prioritizes "neighborliness" and security, providing a social safety net through shared meals and common areas while allowing residents to maintain complete autonomy and privacy in their own suites.

Longevity Coliving
A lifestyle-integrated housing concept centered on the science of healthy aging. It combines daily active longevity routines with wellness-focused amenities—such as infrared saunas, organic gardens, and proximity to nature—to support the physical and mental well-being of residents over the long term.
